Comment:
So, I got tired of looking for some good danceable music through this thing and coming up with shit like Ashanti. So here they are- my ideal dancing songs. Lots of remixes and a couple of oldies but goodies. Enjoy!Feedback:
I like alot of those there... particularly.. Altered Images!
How did you get Ashanti from indie kids? Maybe anything produced by the DFA, !!!, the Rapture, or LCD Soundsystem, but that's DFA's territory. I really don't get the indie kids-Ashanti connection, please enlighten me on that, other than that, cool mix!! Mad props for 1/2 of the Daft Punk duo and Royksopp!!!
Altered Images, Madonna, Beck... Yes, you're really on the cutting edge.
That's odd... I don't recall saying I was attempting to be cutting edge. Thank you SO much for your insight on the matter.
You're welcome. You did however refer to 'stupid indie kids' as if you know more than them. And what's this awesome dance music that'll knock us dead? Boney M! Mmm.
I didn't say dance music that'll knock YOU or anyone else "dead". And don't tell me how I referred to anyone. I was not implying that I know more than "stupid indie kids" about dance music. The title is an inside joke, and I don't need to explain myself any further. And Rasputin kicks ass.
You referred to stupid indie kids. It's right there in your title. Sorry pal but inside joke or not, if you go writing confrontational things like that, expect to be confronted.
You call this a confrontation? heh.
Touche! Now you're impressing me.
Likewise. Most people wouldn't have had the patience to see this 'confrontation' to the end.
Getting bored?
If I say no, does that mean we're going to be arguing again?
Actually if you'd just written 'No', there wouldn't have been much I could have said to that. Hmmm.
Ah, but the act of just saying "no" would have bored me in and of itself.
So you chose to carry on arguing? I'm honoured.
Yeah, why not. I enjoy a good argument as much as the next (extremely charming and intelligent) gal.
Hmm, the next one doesn't like arguing. She threw her drink in my face.
Well, clearly you deserved it as no "next (extremely charming and intelligent)gal" would waste an entire drink just for a laugh- then again, that might be pretty funny. Hm.
I guess they wouldn't and rightly so. All I was doing was being extremely charming and witty. Different strokes huh?
Indeed. Perhaps you should act like an asshole. For some reason, we are magnetically attracted to those.
Probably the same reason us chaps only go for girls we know full well we can't have.
It's a crazy mixed up world.
That ain't the half of it.
Don't I know it!
Look at all these comments you've got. People must like Boney M after all.
Of course people like Boney M! So what if they're 55 year old Germans. Good taste is not age specific, or something...
You're a 55 year old German? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed it.
I have a good plastic surgeon.
Need to work on your mother tongue, though.
Yeah, I know- I've spent all my money on plastic surgery, though. No dialect coach for me!
Ah well. We all speak English in the European Union. There was a referendum on it last year...
Those silly referendums. Giving the people what they want- ha! We don't do that here.
It's all decided with a competition hosted by Casey Casem after the Super Bowl isn't it?
Of course. Because we're all obsessed with age-defying radio hosts and football.
And nachos with cheese, and those giant foam fingers. 'That's a double-thumbs up rating for Kerry! Score!'
Man, stereotypes are just super fun!
Totally! I used to live in Texas so I know about nachos and foam fingers first-hand.
Texas?! You just HAD to pick that state, didn't you...? Perhaps the poorest representation of our country.
Wasn't my idea. New Orleans, San Francisco, Aspen... no, we ended up in a flat suburb of Dallas. Entertainment highlights: the jungle gym at my school, Tom Thumb Page, and the local mall (ice skating and 'Livin On A Prayer' on heavy rotation). Have it!
Can't say I've ever been to Texas, honestly. Have heard that Austin is great, though. Why did you go there, anyhow?
My dad's work took him there. We were supposed to stay there for 15 years (until 2001) but left in 1988... the legacy is I really like stinking hot weather, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Where are you writing from? Is it nice?
I'm from Ohio. It's not nearly as country as people think, but it's not exactly my paradise, either. I hate hot weather, and it's currently hot and muggy and unbearable. But anyhow, I go to college here, so any college town you go to really isn't that bad at all. Peanut Butter Cups are excellent.
Hmm, never got to Ohio. We ventured up to Colorado and east to Alabama. I've got good memories of those parts of the world, especially on drab rainy Wednesdays in England. Are ya from Ohio originally or are you just at college there? or both?
Well, I've lived here for about 10 years and I go to college here, but I lived the first 13 years of my life in NY. It was a difficult transition to go from the city life to the psuedo-country life, but I adjusted, i guess. Where are you from in the UK?
Bath, in the west, near Bristol. Nice little city; it's built up in an old volcano crater so it's very green and hilly. I've heard it's the only city in Europe you can see a tree whereever you stand, but that's not something I'd care to try and prove... All my pals who've been to New York come back with good stories.
I'd love to go over there sometime. One of my greatest friends is over there, and I should really make a visit, but I'm poor as all hell. Very depressing situation, actually. New York is the greatest state. Lots of diversity- you have the monstrosity of a city, and upstate is really gorgeous. You should definitely try to go sometime!
Well I hear you on the poor situation, but I don't let it bother me. I've heard nice things about upstate NY. You know, your mix is nearly only the fifth on this site with more than 50 comments...
Yippee! Thank you for joining me throughout my virginal journey on AotM. I trust you've since downloaded Boney M. and played it daily?
Twice daily. 'Ra-ra-Rasputin' etc
I still can't believe he was the mastermind behind the Milli Vanilli travesty.
No way. No way? Suit jackets and cycling shorts do not go together.
Honey, cycling shorts don't go with anything.
Apart from cycling. You gotta give em that.
Ah yes, there's nothing more attractive than a slightly chubby man in cycling shorts, with his package gloriously draped over the too-tiny seat.
You seem to know a lot about it...
I HATE LOOKING FOR SUMMER WORK. sorry for the departure, i've been insanely looking for a job. anyhow, back to biking shorts. i just so happen to live in a relatively "nice" suburban neighborhood where all of the substantially fat doctors and lawyers are trying to stay thin for their wives who have had so much plastic surgery that they look like they're stuck in some sort of horrid wind tunnel. if you know what i mean. it's a vicious cycle, and a cruel world.
I think that's the first time anyone has ever told me 'Back to biking shorts'. How's that jobhunting going?
Well, I just got a job today. Boring clerical work, but it pays pretty well and is a nice schedule. Finally!! It's only taken about half the summer to find one. How've you been?
A nice schedule? I'm pretty good thanks. It was my birthday at the weekend. And we're (England) playing Portugal in the quarter finals tonight. So, Anglo joy or despair by the time you read this...
Happy belated birthday. How old? I assume you're talking about soccer... as I know nothing of the subject, I guess this is where that particular conversation is going to end!
Thank you- I was 27. Yeah, may as well stop talking about it. We had a goal disallowed and crashed out of the tournament so it's been pretty much discussed and debated to death the last few days. You started your job yet? how's it going?
I'm at work right now, and i'm bored. I'd rather be busy, you know? Makes the day go faster, but no need to bitch about it, i'm just glad I finally have a job! I can't wait to blow my first paycheck on completely useless things like an amusement park pass and nailpolish... ooh yeah.
Awesome. Do they have a Six Flags in Ohio? I guess I know what you mean about the busy/bored/work thing, but it gets too busy and it's a real headache. That hasn't happened here for a while. Thank goodness for the internet huh?
Nope, there isn't a six flags in Ohio. Up north where i go to school there's Cedar Point, the largest roller coaster park in the world, which is really fun, and down here in southern Ohio we have King's Island, which I also love. I guess there isn't much to do around here toher than go to parks, or something. And yes, thank god for the internet.
'Cedar Point'. I love those old American place names... Have you heard Nico's 'Chelsea Girl' album? Listening to it right now at work. It's lush and suiting this cloudy and slightly hungover Friday very nicely.
I've never heard any nico, but she's that one female singer from the 60's or something, right? the album title makes me think of ethan hawkes completely ostentatious "film"chelsea walls.
Right. She sang for the Velvet Underground for one (very great) album... so what music do you like apart from Boney M?
Well, right now i'm listening to mostly electronic artists, like unkle, amon tobin, royksopp, terranova, bowery electric, jacques lu cont and thomas bangalter. but my absoulte favorites are in no order: super furry animals, pink floyd, black heart procession, and doves (despite their short career). take it or leave it, i love these bands!
SFA? Awesome. I can never decide if they or Belle & Sebastian are, y'know, my favourite band ever. They're both up there, jostling for the top spot.
To be honest, I've never really listened to B&S in depth. I've heard bits here and there, but I have perhaps prematurely deemed it a little too... wimpy (for lack of a better word), for my tastes. SFA are fantastic though, aren't they? Greatest live show i've ever been too, bar none.
That's fair enough. My old flatmate, who almost exclusively listened to hiphop, once referred to them as 'gay indie shit'. I love em. ...Where'd you see SFA? They are wonderful. I remember seeing them at Glastonbury in 1999, time of the infamous 'stupid bloke drives van through crowd in front of stage' incident. My brother was one of the people who climbed on top of the van (while the band did the big noisy ending of 'The Man Don't Give a Fuck') and then threw himself off it backwards when the owner of the van came out through the sunroof wielding a fire extinguisher. That was Saturday night and I didn't see my brother again until Monday morning, when he turned up at the tent covered in blood.
Haha... yeah. Gay indie shit.. that'd be a fairly reasonable explanation. I'm at work right now, and all I want to do is listen to some SFA and instead i'm listening to some oldies station. I mean really, I've listened to enough beach boys the past two weeks to last me a lifetime.
By the by, I have not ever heard of that infamous "stupid bloke drives van through crowd in front of stage incident"... that bit about your bloodied brother was pretty hilarious, though. Reminds me of some out of control weekends in college.
Okay, well, maybe it's not that infamous. That's what happened, anyway... I know what you mean about the radio at work. We have Radio 1 and it's pretty dry. Shit like Ashanti mostly. Happily I'm on holiday this week and can listen to whatever I like. Including 'Rings Around The World' this morning. Justice!
Ah... the dreaded shit like Ashanti. Isn't it dumbfounding how stuff like that gets popular? I'll never understand it. People are suckers.
I've been in Barcelona. Well, yeah. Ashanti was a fleeting thing. I really like a lot of hiphop and rnb at the moment. I loved Brandy's last single ('Talk About Our Love').
Barcelona.. nice. I'm going next summer- can't wait. You really enjoy RnB? hm.
Make sure to go to the Gaudi Park. Beautiful. And find a bar called 'The Merry Ant'... Like any music there's a lot of crud but also a lot of gold. The best stuff is like an updated soul / Motown.
Heh.. all this time I thought I had responded last, so I was just waiting for your slow ass to respond. Anyhow, I wrote down gaudi park, so hopefully i'll get to check it out. hey, guess what! you know that job i got? i got laid off last thrusday!! woohoooo.
My slow ass? Ha, you get a 'new comment' email from the webmaster. I have to search for this mix every time. Anyway, so, laid off- what happened there?
haha- well, i'm honored that you take the time to look up my cutting edge mix for increasingly spotty verbal banter. anyhow, i got laid off cause business was slow, so then i thought it would be ok because i got a temp job. then they made me take a drug test. dunno bout that one.
Hmm. Drug test? I watched 'Gattaca' last night so now all I can think of is some joke involving urine pouches but... no. It looks like I'm gonna lose my job too.
oh, thats no good- what do you do? why would you lose your job?
I work in recruitment at a hospital. Basically, due to stuff happening outside my control, the workload will be cut in half. I was the last one in, so... kind of a drag. But, we'll see what happens. Are you back to college soon(ish)?
Well, thats a bummer. Yeah... I got back to my apartment this past monday, and classes start up again this coming Monday. Words cannot express how I am SO not looking forward to this year- but its my last (if all goes as planned), so that's good. Well, good luck with the job thing.
How come you're not looking forward to it?... We've been searching for a new roommate. Haven't met anyone yet but some people are coming round, including the editor of a sci-fi magazine who has all of Deep Space 9 on dvd. Mmm.
I'm not looking forward to it because it's going to be absolutely insane. I'll have class 6 days a week, and I won't be done until 8 everyday- and I have to fit a job in there somewhere. Have you found your roommate yet?
