Comment:
This is for my girl-friend's daughter, Zippy aka Alexandra, who is 4 going on 44. I could not possibly listen to this all the way through more than about twice, so I am glad that this is on it's way to France where she can drive her mother and nine year old sister insane! Elvis & Kylie Minogue are 2 of her favourites as are Pickett & His Crypt Kickers, Jacky and Sellers & Loren.Tell Tale were the singing talent on a Children's TV Show called Rainbow which featured glove puppets Zippy (looked like a brown emmoticom with a zip), George (a pink hippo) and the very precious Bungle (an actor in a bear-suit). If someone said The Small Faces were behind this soundtrack, I wouldn't be too surprised! Track it down fellow UK Mixers!
Larry `Shut That Door' Grayson was a much loved `camp' comedian.
Bionic Santa is an early example of cut-up sampling (Thin Lizzy, Rod Stewart etc) and I'm sure totally illegal. Anyone else got this or know who Chris Hill was?
Of The Holy Three Of Brit Bears (the others being Winnie and Paddington), Rupert was The 007 Bear; dressed to thrill in a Jimmy Dean red jacket and a snazzy yellow scarf, this white bear was always off balloning with his mates and dropping behind enemy lines in far east locales!
Ester & Abbi were an Israeli Folk Sensation.husband and wife.light-weight, never groovy, but Ester was gorgeous a la Audrey Hepburn and her voice is quite beautiful, especially when she covers The Beatles
Pinky & Perky were 2 singing pigs. In short any album played at 45rpm sounds like Pinky & Perky.
Max Bygraves singer/actor; catchphrase `I wanna tell you a story'. Possibly funny once, appeals to old women with hearing disabilities and always ready for a sing-a-long.
Bernard Cribbins singer/voice-man.sort of always there but not sure why or quite how he arrived.
Scottish entertainer (McDonald 12 might be a better scource of info), a fixture on UK TV at New Years Eve when The BBC crossed Hadrians Wall and broadcast Mahoganny (sic). Mid-way through this track, Andy does an Elvis impersonation.
White Horses was a French b/w TV Show broadcast in Britain on school holiday mornings. It had a fantastic theme song and I seem to remember enjoying the show.
Flanders & Swann wrote and performed very funny clever songs that I suppose can be related to Gilbert & Sullivan, Noel Coward, Hinge & Brackett and Victoria Wood.

Feedback:
Lotsa tasty morsels Dom. Hope the kid likes it. Me, I like singing pigs and I'd kindly ask that Mr. Ken Dodd leave me alone and stop pointing at me...please.
First of all, I love synopsis of Rainbow - it was a "special" show! - and I had no idea that Tell Tale had a soundtrack; as a former George fanatic I think I should absolutely track that down. And Andy Stewart...yeah, not one of our best exports but still, nice pick on this mix! Generally, this I love - it's great that you've got things like the Kinks and Small Faces in there too. Truly edutaining.
As manic a mix for a kid as I've seen. Which, as you point out, is great, when you're not the poor adult having to listen along!
Bernard Cribbins was in a Fawlty Towers. He was a spoon salesman, and NOT a hotel inspector.

What a great and wonderfully weird mix. I love seeing the Kinks and Small Faces along side the theme from Dasterdley and Mutley (insert mutley snicker here). I'm quite fond of the 1910 FGC-Monkees-Felix the Cat theme combo you cooked up.
I think your story is just an excuse so's you can put Ken Dodd, Kylie Minogue and Andy Stewart on a mix and not be laughed at! She should love this well-constructed (as ever)mix, Dom. By the way, have a look at my comment on Curtis' last mix. Do you think our "local" knowledge and jokes will fall on deaf Stateside ears?
What no Rod Jane & Freddy? Great stuff Dom. I hope she likes it.
two songs by Bobby Pickett and The Crypt Kickers!? That takes real effort! Though, Pinky And Perky singing Long Haired Lover From Liverpool is something i can probably live with never hearing. let's all take a moment to consider how many under-fives realise Larry Grayson ever existed...
I think this is really great....could have done without the Halloween songs, and probably Ken Dodd (No idea who he is....)!
Yeah, this is the kind of thing that could appropriately warp Alexandra for life. Great job!
