Comment:

This mix began with a desire to juxtapose the polarity between the FTW attitude of the Black Flag opener & the gentle call for inner tranquility in the LH&R closer. A quote from each tune is found in the Charles Atlas cartoon on the back cover. Some notes - The Flying Luttenbachers track was recorded at the Czar Bar in 1993 & features the swinging sounds of Ken Vandermark on sax. The Cline/Brendian track is from a reworking for guitar of Coltrane's Interstellar Space LP. The Tom Waits track is from the original unreleased soundtrack for Alice. It is profoundly more sinister sounding than the version that appears as We're All Mad Here on the recent Epitaph release. The piece performed by Ensemble Modern is a Frank Zappa composition. The Plastic Crimewave Sound live track is from their set on WFMU Thanks to Curtis Burns for the timely delivery on that one. Fushitusha are alleged to be performing a cover of The Jacks' hit Marianne.

Czar bar? wow. Nice to see the Luttenbachers represensted, and even nicer to see Ken Vandermark represented during those "anything can happen" years where seemed to be involved with thrity different projects. Great artwok. Also props on the per Ubu pick.

This is spectacular Jim. The Fushitsusha -> Lamberts, Hendricks, Ross is inspired. But, really the entire mix is, well, spectacular.

Filled with awesome power, my friend! Love the Cline/Bendian, Deerfhoof, Liars and MazzaCane tunes, especially and I need to hear more of the Luttenbachers and Fushishusha. I think I may need this one soon. Great, grebt stuff. :-)
