Comment:

Most people, it seems, are only familiar with Stephin Merritt from his breakthrough Magnetic Fields 3CD masterpiece '69 Love Songs' but he's been making brilliant music for over a decade. With that in mind, this mix doesn't focus too heavily on 69LS, and contains selections from every one of his album and EP's (which includes releases by his side-projects The 6ths, Future Bible Heroes, and Gothic Archies). That one could make an equally compelling compilation solely from the songs I left off only attests to the man's genius as a songwriter.

I'll actually venture to say this is the best/most comprehensive Merritt mix I've seen yet. Would have included more FBH, though, as "Memories Of Love" is in my top ten of all time.

Hey Bluey: Not overly fond of "Le Tourbillon" (though it does showcase Dudley Klute's mastery of the French language) plus it's a cover... "Deep Sea Diving Suit" *is* included (side 1, song 4)... The quickie "Dead Only Quickly" a bit too morose, and "Satan, Your Way Is a Hard One" has yet to be released; if you somehow have gotten a hold of a cd promo or an mp3, please share the wealth ;-)

Vinz: Thanks, and I agree 'Memories' is a fine album by any measure and I would have liked to have included more; that's the trouble with Merritt mixes: Too many great songs!
