Comment:

They say the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and during their career the Police blazed with the white-hot intensity of an oxy-acetylene torch. In the span of just over five years — the time it takes some artists to squeeze out a single album — they married punk to reggae in a shotgun ceremony, scaled the summit of global superstardom, became one of the primary architects of '80s rock, and, in true punk spirit, yanked out the plug in the middle of the set. Unlike most of their peers, the Police were accomplished musicians before ever setting foot in a studio — part of the reason they're still in the public eye while many former punks faded into obscurity. That, and a string of hits that stretched from Kingston to Brixton. We've cherry-picked 45 of their finest cuts by way of introduction.
