Comment:
A mix of songs about NYC or local artists (with a side trip to NJ). Wonderwall is from the MTV Unplugged recording in NY - it's a stretch but I wanted it on. Thoughts?Feedback:
Although I really Like "Prove it All Night", there are better Springsteen songs in my opinion which are more related to NYC (eg Jungleland, Meeting Across the River and other earlier material). There's also "NYC" by Interpol and "I Love NYC" by Andrew WK for other songs I can think of off the top of my head. I do like this compilation already though - especially since I never knew The City (GREAT song) was about New York
I always thought "New York's All Right If You Like Saxophones" by Fear should appear in any mix about NYC. I would also suggest some early Fugs ("Slum Goddess" maybe??). How about "Spanish Harlem" by Aretha? Others: "On Broadway" by the Drifters, "Slow Bus Moving (Howard Beach Party)" by Fishbone, "As I Walked Through Queens" by King Missile, "Avenue C" by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, "I Dreamed I Dwelt In harlem" by Glenn Miller, "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City" by Nilsson, "Rockaway Beach" by the Ramones (this one is a must!!!), "Bleecker Street" by Simon & Garfunkel, "Daddy Don't Live In That New York City No More" by Steely Dan, "New York City Blues" by the Yardbirds, "Boy From New York City" by the Ad Libs...oh hell, there's a ton of 'em!
My favorite NYC song has always been "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel. Give it a listen, it might make a decent final track. Good things happening so far though, Cheers! -Famous.
I'd also add Interpol's NYC. And something by the Velvet Underground wouldn't hurt either... well, you have Lou Reed on it at least.
Nice mix though.
Nice mix though.
James has got a mix of his own there - part two maybe? - anyway, not a bad mix.
Stretch all you want, this looks pretty cool! Some Jets To Brazil would fit too...
I had no idea Costello was referring to anywhere else but Chelsea, London...though he does mention sixty six which I suppose alludes to Studio 66.
