Comment:

When Johnny was kicked out of Menudo at the first sign of a mustache, he embarked upon the shortest solo career in music history. His one and only album was a downright disaster. The critics claimed his voice was tolerable at best, while Rolling Stone proclaimed him "the worst songwriter that ever lived". To say Johnny took the criticism hard is an understatement. He had known nothing but success throughout his tenure with Menudo, and he was totally unprepared for the music industry's rejection. He responded by plunging into a 15 year depression, living in isolation in rural Mexico, where he made his living by carving life-sized wooden statues of Mexican peasants. He would sit in his hot dusty studio for 10 hours a day, singing softly as he whittled away at a huge chunk of wood. This was therapy for Johnny, and slowly he was able to purge the heartache of the past. He was a good carver, and more importantly, the local community liked his work. In that little corner of the world, he ceased to be known as the "former member of Menudo" and instead became known as a talented carver. Johnny liked that. This tiny morsel of success helped Johnny to emerge from his depression, and he began dreaming of larger, more glamorous possibilities.... On a chilly night under the stars, with nothing but a blanket and a bottle of Negro Modelo to keep him company, he began to reminisce. He thought of the different paths the various members of Menudo had taken since the glory days. Most had quit show business and were raising families, working as insurance agents or grocery clerks. But some had been lucky enough to enjoy an even greater success post-Menudo in the entertainment industry. "Ricky Martin." thought Johnny, with a pang of jealousy. How was Ricky able to become so successful overnight? Was he more talented, more charismatic? Hardly, thought Johnny. "I was the lead vocalist in Menudo... Ricky was just backup... I signed more autographs than he did, and on stage I always danced in front of him because he couldn't remember the routines." He swallowed a gulp of beer and laughed mockingly, feeling a surge of superiority that quickly transformed into inspiration. Suddenly it dawned on him: "If he can do it, I can do it! I can perform again! I WANT to perform again!" A million ideas raced through his head as he finished his beer. He immediately started formulating a plan. It would be his one final bid for stardom as a solo artist, And it's gonna work this time!" he exclaimed into the lonely night air. He was convinced that his singing had improved drastically after 10 years of constant practice. But he needed material. Sprinting to his studio, he began to dig eagerly through his music collection, picking his favorite tracks from the music he had appreciated throughout his life. He assembled a wide range of latin-tinged music, from classics by Os Mutantes to modern bands like Radio Zumbido. He decided to have a concert in the park and perform all the songs. He created the perfect setlist for the concert and burned it onto a cd so he could listen and practice. He would need a backup band. He scratched his head as he looked around the studio. He was surrounded by life-sized wooden statues, but there were no humans within miles. "Well, it would take too long to put a band together anyway. I will just use the original songs and sing over the vocals." Besides, a lot of the songs were instrumentals, allowing him the perfect opportunity to showcase his new dance maneuvers. The plan was now complete. "I better start practicing!" he thought. So he cleared a space in his studio and pressed play on the stereo......

This cover is hilarious, as are your notes. I can't say much about the music, as it's not really my "thing" (from what little I've heard).

Very funny, "Orchid." (If that even is your real name.) Too bad it's all a pack of lies. Maybe you should check your sources, chica. "One of the worst" and "the worst" are not the same thing. You'll be hearing from my lawyer on Monday. Well, that's a holiday, but you'll be hearing from my lawyer on Tuesday. Hasta la vista, puta.
