Comment:

This is a 2 cd mix of my favorite African (or heavily African influenced) tunes. "Songi-songi" is the Lingala word for malicious gossip and mud-slinging. I don't speak Lingala, but this word always stands out to me when I listen to African music. Orchestra Baobab, and Franco & OK Jazz say it all the time. The quote about gossipers comes from a Dinka ethnography I read in one of my anthropology classes. It's a line from an old ceremonial song.

This is excellent. I love Orchestra Baobab, Ali Farka Toure, Mongo Santamaria, and of course, King Sunny Ade. Some of these are unknown to me, but it looks wonderful.

Mr. Toure is the only artist that I know on here... in fact, may be the only African artist that I've followed at all besides Fela Kuti. Am I interested in this or would it sort of sit in my collection?

Very nice selection. With the long songs it needs to be on at least 2 CDs! I've got to do this too.
