Comment:

Volume two, slightly more scattered than the first. As I tried to state on my first volume, I actually intended to incorporate R 'n' B/soul, jazz and country into the fabric of these pop-oriented mixes, but due to the fact that folks are interested in seeing a "soul" mix and a "jazz" mix, I've decided to hold off on those tracks. There will be at least one more pop/rock volume before I even contemplate the jazz and soul mixes. Title from the Jacques Brel song performed here by Scott Walker. [Note: This mix was revised on December 23, 2004.]

you clearly can't go wrong with any of these tracks.

Like part one, intriguingly diverse.

Very nice - and if you must include a Doors (shudder) track, you've defintely chosen the right one...

I don't like the Doors, either, but I like a few of their songs, and that one really fit on the mix.

So many great selections. Not to revive the Doors pro/con discussion again but... can't have a 60s mix without 'em.

Nice picks again. I think I'd favour a mixing of the styles but, as you say 'who knows'.

You've got ears mister, becasue you've gone with many of the same cuts i would. I think I'm just a smidgeon more tolerant of the Doors than many others here, but I would gone with their coolest song, "Moonlight Drive". Great Scott Walker pick and you can never go wrong with "Making Time".

Another fine edition. I'm diggin' the Creation and the Left Banke as well. Nice (and unobvious) pick from the Band.

There is no call to hate the Doors. There is if you are speaking of The Doors/Cult project, but come on. They were a good band, no matter how pretentious they may seem. My only complaint is the absence of The Turtles or The Zombies. But it's a pretty good mix, mang.

Sorry - didn't mean to kick up the ancient argument dust, thereby obscuring what is a really terrific mix. "Hate" is an awfully strong word - hate connotes "caring" (i.e., sometimes I can really HaTE someone I love) - that said, the Doors have some bright spots (in my opinion) & the one chosen by Rob is definitely one of them - that's all...

Great stuff again, Rob. Nice Donovan, Zappa, Band & Van Morrison choices. Among others.

To Kris: I dunno, I think the Doors are pretty unbearable in the pretension department (by the way, Dale, "Moonlight Drive" is my favorite Doors song, too), and the Zombies are on Disc 1. The Turtles may or may not make Disc 4...

Since I'm on a Lovin' Spoonful kick at the moment, I'd like to voice a vote for them in this series. As it stands, you're doing a good job of covering an amazingly fertile musical period. (By the way, I'd take the Doors over Frank Zappa any day.)

Wonderful series, Rob! I'm with you on the Doors (as you know), but I agree it's really difficult to do a retrospective of the 60s and leave t hem out completely.

Great addition Rob (creeping towards legendary). Love the Soft Machine, Red Krayola, Scott Walker, Flying Burrito Brothers, Fairport Convention, Left Banke and Dionne Warwick picks especially.

If I could pick a mix of the week, this would definitely be it. What a great mix. That 13th Floor Elevators song is a real good choice, and I like the Fairport Convention too.

as s. walker, quoting j. brel, might say: cute cute cute in a stupid ass way. that's a compliment of course. i used the cast recording version of 'jacky' for my '45' mix. great stuff here, esp. doors, pretty things, creation - hell, it's all good!
