Comment:
My tribute to Brother Ray, aptly known as The Genius. I was going to do one side of Atlantic-era hits and one side ABC and beyond, but that would only scratch the surface of his catalog and be totally hits-dominated. Besides, years ago I made a tape of all the Atlantic R&B hits from his 'Life in Music' five-LP set. The ABC years merit special consideration, because this is when he went all country and gloppy and MOR -- and was STILL a genius. With most of the hits (Georgia on My Mind is MIA) plus album tracks and a b-side or two, this includes selections from almost every ABC album I have, in mostly chronological order, with my usual bias towards the up stuff at the expense of balladry. Brother Ray did not live next door to the blues, he lived in them, and made all genres -- soul, R&B, jazz, country, pop, showtunes -- his own. Rejected titles: Ray Charles Hits the Road, Ray Charles Unchained, Heaven Help Ray CharlesFeedback:
Thanks for putting this one together!
Outstanding tribute to brother Ray. Had a feeling all week that you'd be doing this, Eric.
Oh yes. (No "Greenbacks"?)
This is truly great. Better than anything I could do with the dearth of material I have, for sure.
Wonderful tribute.
