If you take requests I've got a few for you: '60s Soul
Comment:
So this can be considered part five of my 60s series, although it can stand on its own. Classic soul, period. Some extra notes: 1) I realize that John Lee Hooker isn't "soul", per se, but the song swings enough that I think it fits well; 2) I tried hard to choose another James Carr song since most of them are great, but I couldn't escape "Dark End" because it's probably my favorite soul song of all-time; and 3) Ditto Etta James, but "I'd Rahter Go Blind" is such a towering achievement that it's hard to ignore. Title from Mr. Cooke, who more or less single-handedly invented the genre. Revised 7-23-04, eliminating "Shotgun" by Jr. Walker & the All-Stars and including "Every Little Bit Hurts" (thanks to Orchid for that one).Feedback:
This is a fantastic mix. Absolutely first rate!
Outstanding.
Great, great songs!
Excellent selections by Carla, Miracles, and Jr.
First rate mix as usual. All the essential 60s soul artists are in attendance.
Wonderful, whether as part of the 60s series or by itself. I love the Northern Soul inclusions, and 1-6 is a great opening generally.
Thank You!
That Eddie Floyd song is one of my single favorite tracks of all time. Great mix, Rob.
A stone cold classic, mister.
U can't go wrong with any of these trax! Good stuff!
Wonderful.
Some great picks as always. I really dig the Arthur Alexander pick and the Bar-Kays pick as well. Will volume six in the series focus on Scottish banjo two-steps from the era?
Nice classics
This is my favorite of the series. You can argue all night and day whether music "in general" was better in the 60's or not - but there was no better decade for soul music - none (the 70's did come close, though).
this is a classic, rob.
An interesting and wide-ranging collection ... nice job.
They don't make songs like this anymore.
Excellent.
VERY nice!
not a bad song insight here, classic stuff you never get tired on
Superb.
