Comment:

This is the weirdest thing I could think to make a mix of, but I dont care. Having just gotten back from a 10 day James Joyce symposium in Dublin, this mix is in response to a question posed in one of the myriad panels I attended over the last 10 days: If Joyce were still alive, what would he listen to? (Joyce was, in fact, a fanatical music lover and musician) So here's what I did: match my indiesnob music tastes to the themes of each homeric episod of Joyce's Ulysses. Weird, I know. If anyone is still following the thrust of what I'm doing, please chime in with any suggestions/comments/hatemail.

Excellent stuff, and you beat me to it - I had been working on a Joyce mix. It's not an easy thing to do, but you have great picks here, especially the Shins and Radiohead, and your concept is really interesting (and far better than mine).

I see where you're going with chapter 6 (Hades) & 18 (Penelope) but I don't really follow what associations you're making with most of the others. Okay, I can make a guess at the connection implied with the Modest Mouse & Dismemberment Plan tracks, too, but is it a good guess? As with most things Joycean, this probably needs a commentary -

yeah, it got a bit challenging after Cyclops...Scylla & Charybdis was a bit of a streatch, but I started to just try to match the music on a thematic basis, something that I could listen to and say "I could see this matching the tone of the episode." You're right Modest Mouse and Dismemberment Plan.
