Comment:
First impressions. A meandering mix of first songs from first albums. An interesting gimmick. I wasn't real strict about singles, EPs and imports and I've used some of these songs on other mixes. Also just used artists who have a few albums. I had a pile of CDs beside the computer to make a few more mixes on this theme as most AOTMers would. Apologies to our friends around the world for the U.S. release focus of this mix.
Feedback:
Nice one, George. Some of those transitions are a treat (Ramones -> Beach Boys!)That cover image deserves a mention too, although I'm not sure why :)
Very nice stuff...
What a good idea, and it makes for a pretty good mix too!
excellent idea, fantastic execution. heavy on the cream on the classics!
Nice idea! And really interesting to see all these grouped together. I like the Patti Smith - Clash transition a lot.
nice one, George; great picks all-around.
Great concept, well executed. I particularly like the tracks that really ring like a call to arms by a new band (i.e. the Ramones, Clash, Pavement, REM, Doors tracks), though in many of those cases the bands had a few singles/EP's to warm up on.
what everyone said.
I agree with everyone. A great one for the road.(Except for one song; I'm not saying which.)
I had thought about doing something like this, but it would have looked very different. Excellent job, as usual!
A pedant writes:
"Clash City Rockers" was not the first track on the Clash's first album. It was "Janie Jones".
"Clash City Rockers" was (I think) the band's four single, and was subsequently used as the lead-in track for the US-release of an album that was NOT the Clash's first, but was actually more of a compilation of their work up to and including "The Cost Of Living" EP.

I'm blinded by the brillance of this you!
First things first! -- I'd like to think that if I had heard any of these songs as my first intro to any of these musicians, I would have got it immediately & then followed them forward; as it is, I just have to imagine
what it might be like to start at the beginning rather than somewhere in the middle -- & for that imaginary scenario this mix would be perfect.

The pedant below is right about the Clash of course but I did say I was using US releases. The same could also be said about the Cure and the REM EP and all the different UK vs Us releases of the Beatles and the Stones, Indie releases, etc, etc. I just wanted to have a little fun with this.
I'm with Radio Sally on this one, in that I too had thought of trying this -- but my mix would have been nothing like this and nowhere near as good. This is excellent. Now, what about the last songs from the last albums?
Nice. I had a hankering to do one of these, just like you, James and Sally.
Good idea and a great slew of trax!
wow, this is wonderful!
Looks like fun!
Fun, indeed it looks! (Sorry, buglady took my line!)
Really awesome. A great idea for a mixtape...I'm impressed that you used some earlier Beach Boys and Beatles picks. Every album listed here though is great.
Great stuff George.
Enjoyed the 2 mixes we traded, George, and this series looks to be a winner as well. Anytime you want to trade again, send me some mail.
How on earth did I miss this? Excellent again.
