Comment:
I've been saving up Beatles covers for the ultimate tape for many years (and costing many, many dollars). Having received some kickass Beatles covers tapes from my trading pal Don K., I decided to return the favor and just throw together a bunch of tracks he didn't have. Of course, it's never that simple. But this one flows well and the versions usually offer something fresh in interpretation or sound. Kick off with a trio from the great Caetano, into a Latin beatles thang, to some jazzy vocalists and soul treatments, ending with Tony's Shatner-worthy bombast. Side two opens with a quartet of George songs, blending into a garage-y run which turns '60s-pop, then gets heavy with Black Oak and heavier still -- almost unbearably so -- with the Tooth before going out on a lark. A good warm-up for my ultimate Beatles covers tape, coming one of these days.Feedback:
Interesting mix to say the least! I like it,many of these songs I never even knew existed. You should check out Type O Negative's version of Day tripper... way messed up!
Tight! How long is this tape? Is it a 90 minute tape? How long do you plan to make you ultimate tape? Do you like the Fiona Apple covers from the Pleasantville soundtrack? Again, great job!
Black Oak Arkansas did a cover of Taxman? Sweet ass!
Tom Jones' take on "Hey Jude" is...interesting. You should also try and get your hands on an old '60s LP called "Beatle Country" by the Charles River Valley Boys. It's amusing.
