(What do you get the 9-year-old daughter who "lives for rock-n-roll? I made her this...)

CHAPTER XVII --

The day of her birth times 9, Princess Kerstin rocked hard
with her axemen, loyal drummers and a steel-studded bard
arranged as biker warriors round a stage where they starred.
Their fearsome solos roared raging about that strobe-lit hall
and they ascended the stage, devil-horned hands one and all.
They riffed till the dawn broke through dragon-draped skies,
assembled hordes banged their heads as the volume did rise.
I need say no more how they rocked that black night,
for what dunce would deny their thundering might?
But a new noise arrived with monstrous bellow
forcing Kerstin to turn from planned wicked solo.
The music had finished but a moment before,
when a towering figure passed through Judas Priest-postered doors.
His body as tattooed and pierced as any could be,
a leather vest and Mot÷rhead T-shirt had he.
And strapped round his shoulder was a marvelous axe
a quadruple-necked version blasting millions of amps.
They stared at the stranger as in acid-washed dream,
Dumbstruck hairy rockers wondered what it might mean
that strange axeman did trespass straight into their scene.
All eyes were upon him as he fingered his frets
and strummed till the riffage thundered up from the depths.
Most metalheads cowered before his great sound's advance.
Kerstin alone gave him nary a glance.
She lifted her head and, as rock honor bid,
said "Good axeman, come hither, rock hard if you must.
But know that our riffage quakes the towers to dust."
The strange axeman snickered, his mullet did shake.
He had always left headbanging wimps in his wake.
But Princess Kerstin smiled fiercely, and bright shafts of light
shone bright from her hands as her own axe took flight.
She handled Exxxcalibur nimbly and true,
and let out a howl, like Iron Maiden, mark deux.
Kerstin raised her right arm, a bronze pick held in place
a look of rock rapture spread over her face
then she shattered the dawn like rock's most mighty lord
and slayed strange guitarist with one power chord.

Frightening, to say the least . . .;) Nice notes, though.

I don't know half the tracks here, but I'm very familiar with the bands and I think your title is just a little off -- there is no way Motorhead or Judas Priest could be considered part of the NWOBHM, and I have my doubts about Girlschool too. Bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon SUPPORTED Judas Priest and Motorhead. The latter were already very well established when Geoff "Deaf" Barton coined the New Wave term for bands like Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. I'm not knocking the collection - just querying the title. You could perhaps have included bands like Trespass, Raven, the Tygers Of Pan Tang, Vardis, Venom and Sledgehammer instead.

I'll admit that I'm not too familiar with a lot of the songs here - but this is one of the coolest birthday gestures I've ever seen. Love the comments and rock on indeed!

so cool. Def Leppard may not be the greatest, but i think they're totally underrated. Great story.

I hope your daughter appreciated this! Whilst I agree with PradaMeinHoff in part, it is a great mix (although, I preferred Iron Maiden's first album when they really were NWOBHM {and I got to see them many Sunday evenings at the Ruskin Arms in East Ham, London just a couple of streets away from where my uncle lived}). I wish I still had my copy of 'Am I evil' by Diamond Head as well. Very excellent.
