Comment:
I had a party and asked everyone to bring a summer mix. I told them they could interpret the theme however they wanted, but I wanted the Cd's before the party to make a master mix (about 10 minutes from each Cd). I wanted something to play during the party, but I also wanted to use the master mix as a party favor. My ulterior motive was to get them hooked on themed CD exchanges. It didn't work, but they made some really good Cds. See if you can guess the styles. Well I'll just tell you. Randy13 contributed the Seks Bomba, Desmond Dekker and Los Straight Jacket tracks. His friend JM contributed the Alphaville, Violent Femmes, and Chris Rea. My friend KW contributed the great tracks by Manu Chao, Johnny Cash, and Avenue A (I loved 13. I had never heard of Avenue A before. I also happen to love that Johnny Cash song.) JM's girlfriend K was lovely enough to include the very needed classics of songs by Jimmy Buffet, Waylon Jennings, and the Beach Boys. My friend CL contributed the lovely Dido song and the gorgeous Richard Butler remix song. CL's boyfriend gave us the two dance tracks remixed by local DJ's, so I am afraind I can't give you the artists: songs 16 and 10. Paco, with a great Cd, gave the Danny Tenaglia (also a new one for me), the Mariachis Vargas, and the Modest Mouse. I am responsible for the Jesus and Mary Chain track and the KOOP track.Feedback:
i'm familiar with less than half of this, but i mostly dig the theme and the execution, that was a rad idea. and more people should be responsible for putting jamc on mixes.
A triumphant product of a brilliant idea. I'm seeing more and more invites to parties with the fine print asking to bring 2 or 3 of my fave tracks and at the end of the party you get this way-random CD that's really good. Plus it's fun trying to figure out who brought (in this case) Manu Chao or (in my case) Animal Collective
great idea
