Comment:
79:27I once read that when listening to a speaker, the notes you take should not so much
revolve around the speaker (or his ideas)...but about what his ideas make
you think: here, then, my equatorial thoughts:
The lads (Robert Fripp + Brian Eno) have, categorically, and equatorialy, done it again
(
The Equatorial Stars, 2004, Opal, Ltd.); a tall, whole milk, caramel
frippaneno. I got the disc early last week and, after some studious
listening, negotiated a response; the goal being both a review of the CD as well as a
stand-alone mix.
While breaking no real "new" ground...it is a wonderfully
polished, ambient/drone/glitch of a listen; reminiscent of Eno's 1983 Apollo
soundtrack CD (and a bit of Nerve Net)...with the addition of the Fripp guitar.
Fripp & Eno trade off the fore & background to each other, in gentleman-like fashion,
across the album's seven landscaped tracks.
[btw: a free copy to the 1st one who
can adequately explain the title's 'user error' reference. Thanks to Valis for the Bill Nelson track]

Feedback:
Ok , i know Fripp and ENO / I even speaked to him (Eno) long long years ago in a casual encounter in Frankfurt as he did an Sound Installation , but i dont know a single track here and even not the User error reference but i like the Cover , looks like an Interference between my 2 Satelite dishes.

A tall, whole milk, caramel frippaneno - you couldn't have described this mix any better (yes - I know you were referring to the Lads' new disc) - I might add that it is really a tall, whole milk, caramel gabanfrippaneno.
Gene proves once again that ambience can indeed rock...

i trust your taste in this area
looks awesome. i'll have to check out that new record.
As p the swede says, you are the expert in this field. 'a review of the Cd and a stand alone mix' !! What a cool concept. Fun.
Let's see. The "user error" message frequently pops up during an artist/song search on AOTM. Am I anywhere close to the correct answer?
Or perhaps you're referring to how we surrender our decision-making power in personal and workplace computing situations. As users we willingly grant authority to the creators of software, support materials, and the seductive infrastructure of technocracy.
Oh yeah, nice mix!
Very good to hear Empathy Test holding its value for you.
And great to hear it being mixed with such fine company as Fripp & Eno :)
Just nipped over to Hypnos and read your handy Equatorial review. Then
heard a couple of samples off the web. Sounds like I'd better order a copy
asap.
All the best,
and thanks.

Okay, I'll let Brian Eno explain the error: "Somehow my shoe nudged the little red button on the little black box with the little green lights. That button told the little box to tell the digital recorder that we would be recording in a manner far too tedious to explain when in fact we intended to record quite differently, in a manner also far too tedious to explain. Unaware of the error of my shoe, and thus, one could say, carefree, we launched into playing, assuming that our efforts were being efficiently and uncomplainingly recorded bit by bit and byte by byte in the correct manner which is far too tedious to explain rather than, as happened to be the case, in the incorrect manner which is also far too tedious to explain."
I see you HAVEN'T slipped in a Kylie track (that's a surprise !):)
Moe, is, of course, correct (I guess Moe knows Eno). What happened is Brian [doh] Eno inadvertently erased (or failed to properly record the master file for one of the tracks on the new disc; Fripp (more than a little steamed) then had to come back on Thursday next and re-do the track (and some say that it's a far less passionate "take" then the original one was.
...I guess we can all call him Brian St. James Mulrooney Peter Baptiste McQuire de la Souffle la boingo boingo "royal fuck-up" Sebastian Luigi St. Brigadoon Ignatious Eno now...

Looks wonderful - the link to the review just gives the whole thing all the more depth. And "a tall, whole milk, caramel frippaneno" - that's genius.
Woo hoo! I won! I won! Just call me Eno Meeny Miney Moe.
Something to check out.
Been curious about the new Fripp/Eno stuff--must be a treat to hear. Another good one, Gene.
that moe is a smarty-pants! great mix, Mr Labs, and as usual superb liner notes.
Looks good here g.a.b.'ian master...I'll see your "Altair" and shake my Bootes...it's all stars and spaces here....Moe knows Eno.
One venti frippaneno please (no whip)
I know Eno and Moe, 'e no Eno...This looks like another stunner from the labs. Excellent write-up too.
Great work, Gene. Nice write up and an excellent cover image.
