Comment:
Last tracks cut (reluctantly): "Pink Glove," "Mile E*d," "Bob Lind (the only way is down)," "Disco 2000," "Bad Cover Version", "Your Sister's Clothes", and "Roadk*ll."Feedback:
nice mix, Rob.
oj w/pulp? no thanx. mix full of pulp? yes please.
Hate to correct you,Rob..but Pulp are not a Brit Pop Band....their debut recording is 1983..Blur's debut is 1990 and Oasis is 1994! Nevertheless, a great looking mix of music made by a true, British eccentric!
And this hollow feeling grows and grows and grows and grows....and you want to call your mother, and say MOTHER, I can never come home again, 'cause I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere, somewhere in a field in Hampshire, alright.
I miss my Pulp phase. Pink Glove was the only song I listened to for that whole year.
Thanks for the comments (and Hooha! nice to see you). Hate to correct your "correction", Dom, but I'm completely familiar with every record by Pulp, Blur and Oasis, as well as when they made their debuts and debut date means nothing in terms of what was stylistically Britpop (in other words, there's music being released now that I call "Britpop" or say "has a Britpop vibe"). And I'm sorry, but to say that "Common People" is not a quintessential Britpop song is to be pointlessly contrary, IMHO and in the opinion of a million others.
I Love Pulp and This is Best Collection ever! GREAT JOB !! :)
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely... So lovely in fact it might go all the way up to 11!
Yeah, Pulp are certainly Britpop, although I don't think you can call records that come out now 'Britpop'- it was all to do with that period (93-97ish). Pulp's stuff from then is still great- shame they ran out of steam.
Yes, I agree completely with u Rob re: Common People; it is one of the defining moments in Brit Pop and the transition of Jarvis Cocker into a star! AGAIN, GOOD MIX:)
This is really, really nice - you've nailed a lot of the tracks which I'd say pretty much sum up the Pulp atmosphere, if that's what you can call it. I was listening to Different Class just the other night, looking at the pictures on the inlay and reading the lyrics (even though Cocker & co. ask you expressly not to do that while listening!) - anyway, it brought a smile to my face to distinctly remember how pissed off my 13- or 14-year-old self was when they narrowly missed getting to No. 1 with Mis-Shapes (uh, all those years ago...!) Babies is, of course, a wonderful opener, and I'm very glad to see This Is Hardcore - and I recently rediscovered the joy of Help The Aged, so that's a nice inclusion too. And by the way, as someone who feels like they were inaugurated into the world of "alternative" music via Britpop, I can safely say that while Blur and Oasis may have been at the forefront, Pulp = Britpop :)
that relaxed muscle thing frightens the heck out of me, but pulp is pulp. jarvis = genius.
Very nice. I need to check out more of that band.
Extra Pulpy!!! This is a band that I always enjoy but have never fully commited to. At times Jarvis can be a tad too precious for me to go along for the whole ride. But every album has a few killer songs that demonstrate why he's so revered. A perfect band for a best of.
awesome!! If i didn't find this mix i was going to email and request it!! although i'm missing joyriders and feelingcalled love-you have your reasons though i'm sure-however i tend to disagree with the general sentiment that pulp=britpop and hold fast to blur-recently watched starshaped and remembered how much i love that out of control shit!
