Note the absence of Avril, Shania, Celine...call me coldhearted, but they have no place on a mix of REAL Canadian artistry!

You leave out Cohen AND ... Bruce Cockburn, the Guess Who, the Stampeders, Steppenwolf, Rush, Brian Adams, Kim Mitchell, Loverboy, Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Lenny Breau (just to name a few "popular music" icons) ... yet you include the Odds and Sloan??? Kind of a lame intro. to Canadian Popular Music.

Grrr...why do people like lostinthemix feel the need to get up on their soapbox and slam popular music?? Ya know what- screw 'em. All of these artists and songs are solid, and half of what that person suggested is old school. Bonus points for including Hawksley Workman- I've seen him twice this summer and he was amazing in both shows. Cheers! -Famous.

i know i ommited major artists. the CD was for a particlar individual who would have DIED if i include Cohen and Loverboy and Kim Mitchell, though i enjoy them myself. perhaps then i should rename this Justin's Intro to Canadian Rock/Pop Music. i stand by Sloan as a top Canadian artist, regardless of their relative obscurity internationally, and i just happen to enjoy the odds tune. this mix was more about including songs that this individual would enjoy, not songs they already knew, but thanks for your constructive criticism ;)

Where did I once decry popular music? All the examples I cited were popular. I have a mix on this site devoted to pop music. My gripe was that utl's mix was a rather limited sampling of Canadian music. You need to a) read my posts or b) read my posts next time, AlmostFamous, before griping about my complaints. Otherwise, you look like a bit of a fool.

P.S. I like Sloan & Workman, too, I just don't think they've proved themselves. Workman is more original and interesting than Sloan, and I think he'll make good on his early promise some day. The Odds and Sloan are just good pop bands. Nothing original. They are not the cream of any crop. Neither Adams nor Krall are that original either, but they're Big Name introductions if you don't know squat about Canadian music.

Well done. As a fellow Canuck, I applaud this mix. I also recommend Sam Roberts, Pilate, and Broken Social Scene, to name a few. Well done.

A nice little sampler of Canadian music, but I think we can both agree that you're only scratching the surface. Vancouver Nights and the Heavy Blinkers would have been nice additions, but I can forgive you for leaving out Loverboy! ;)

I agree with Moe that you've only just scratched the surface, but you're off to a good start! If you're considering volume 2, might I suggest Flashing Lights, Superfriendz, Cub, Plumtree, Kate Maki, New Pornographers, Weakerthans, Wild Strawberries, Emm Gryner, Sarah Harmer, Pursuit of Happiness, Inbreds, Headstones, Cowboy Junkies, Holly Cole... OK OK, I'll shut up!

Sarah Harmer! How could I forget...."Basement Apartment" is on here in my mind!
