Talk about retiring while you’re on top. Or after scoring five straight #1 albums, which is exactly what DMX did after releasing [i]Grand Champ[/i]. While he bounced right back into the game a couple years later, Yonkers’ most successful MC could have spent the rest of his life raising pit bulls without losing an ounce of respect. At the end of the day, the songs speak for themselves — loudly — including the sinister power balladry of “Slippin’,” the horn-chased “X Gon’ Give It to Ya,” the rabid rap/R&B duet “What These B*****s Want,” and the GRAMMY®-nominated “Who We Be,” a complex but catchy cut that nips at your heels like a pack of stray dogs.
