Comment:

this tape is a little bit spottier because the material is, too. the thing i noticed about rhino's compilation is that rather than do things chronologically (which i prefer) they mixed things up evenly. that works for their purposes (i DO love that comp) but i found that this way i can kind of hear the changes, the lineup switches, dee-dee coming in and out of the band over and over again. some of the songs he wrote later on ("poison heart" in particular, even though the heartbreakers recorded it first, also "i wanna live") were fucking gut-wrenchingly good. here are four punk-ass kids from forest hills, queens, that've turned from street hustling dope fiends into the world's greatest rock and roll band. and they don't know how to cope so they fight and they hate each other, but at the end of the day they're one big, fucked-up, happy family (just like the song. yes, the one i didn't put on the compilation. i KNOW.)

oh, and this one is a little bit longer than the rhino comp--they've got 58 songs, this one has 69. if you're into that kind of thing. come on!

Most bands' songs wouldn't work in chronological order because it would song choppy, but it works for the Ramones. "I Wanna Live" is my favorite Ramones song. Again, kick-ass mix.

As with many fans, I'd find your first tape infinitely preferable to volume 2, though you've hit all the highlights of their latter years here. Maybe I'm a rarity, but I actually get a kick out of their Acid Eaters cover song album, and was surprised to see you completely omit it. Sure, nothing too creative about a bunch of 60's covers (and their song choice was not exactly inspirational), but it's still an entertaining album.
