Comment:

Call him what you want — a troublemaker, a street-hardened sage, or a straight-up movie star. From the very second he grabbed a mic with N.W.A., Ice Cube’s been all of these things and more, absolutely owning the West Coast game with such massively influential hardcore hip-hop albums as Amerikkka’s Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator. And just when you think he’s gone Hollywood with starring roles in good-natured films like Friday and Barbershop, Cube bounces back with blunt reminders of how he got here in the first place: the distorted synths and fist-clenching choruses of “It Takes a Nation,” the creeping keys and teeth-baring rhymes of “Do Ya Thing,” and well, the entire Raw Footage album, really (sure, he's been here for years, but that one's a comeback through and through).
