Comment:
Me: Agreed, 5 Burroughs is great...just what you'd expect from the grown up Beasties.Friend: That was the day...how did we go from Tribe, the Beasties, NWA, and Public Enemy to Gangsta Rap, anyway?
Me: Seems like Gangsta Rap is to Mos Def as the Girl Craze is to Ani DiFranco. There's still good music with a socially conscious message out there, it's just harder to find. Now how and why that became uncool I have NO idea...
Friend: Huh. If you say so. It's pretty hard to find that in any genre these days.
Me: I love a challenge :)
The charge: to make a mix from the past decade(ish) of music with a sociopolitical conscience.
Feedback:
Any mix that has at its core the aim to bash Bush and his wrongheaded policies gets 5 stars from me. Not to mention there are some great tunes here!
great songs in there...and placed well
Good message, good selections.
Agree with lostinthemix. Good work.
