Comment:
2CDs 120 minutesI Will Be Good
For all the students and teachers out there.
Better than the anticipation of Christmas, or any other single day, the anticipation of school's end and summer's start is a very heady feeling for students and teachers alike. Thinking about this transition from school into summer brought about the idea of doing a song cycle from school to summer, back to school, transition to the world of work, disillusionment, and the descent (heh, heh) into dirty-old-manhood.
I want to throw a HUGE nod to the Kinks, whose theme on Schoolboys was taken and expanded upon. I used most of that album. It was a major favorite in college. Apologies if any die-hard Kinks fans are offended.
I've always loved James McMurtry's song of too-early success and the concomitant later failure of early potential. It fits in very well here. Also, I was quite happy to stumble across the Deftones track. That song is imo the perfect aural representation of sand in the grinding psychic gears that accompanies the realization that a student very shortly actually does have to be back in school.
Not wanting to close on a wistful, nostalgiac note, I added the forward-looking Jethro Tull coda to what could have been a completed mix. Jump up, look around, find yourself some fun. Enjoy the mix!
Feedback:
What a great idea, and great execution! I love it as much as I hate teaching in the summer.
Steve - Super mix! Good to see you back in the saddle. Mucho fine selections here, and excellent flow and story line.
exactly what mr Misfit says! superb
Ditto all -- I like how this flows.
Very cool. Those Alice Cooper and Brownsville Station picks were radio stapes at the end of the school year way back when I was in high school.
An excellent double Steve...great job...5 star Mix!
Ditto Jackson.
Superb stuff and I think the Kinks tracks work like a charm! Really like the first CD especially.
Excellent - Alice Cooper was in the charts with this when I left school (must have been a re-release!!). The moment is well captured with these mixes.
Another stellar contribution to your canon!
