Comment:
Basically, this is a mix about "the one that got away". Hopefully, the opening sequence (1-4) shows the progression from best friends to lovers, and the untouchable, near perfect quality such a relationship has, especially when you're a teenager. The Aerosmith track particularly suits what I was going for, since it was the "Armageddon" theme - it's about an on-screen romance, a kinda "airbrushed love" if you want, where everything is perfect. (The fact that my relationship was long distance and I listened to the song a number of times on the plane from Scotland to Philadelphia also works in its favour I guess). The Movielife were an ever-present in her cd player, and Ash were the first (and only) British band I heard play on the radio in Philly. The fact that the lyrics to both seem to represent some extreme foreshadowing of the relationship is surely a coincidence, but nonetheless, helpful from a mixing POV since I can maintain a story-like kinda feel. Lit and Eve 6 were two bands I heard for the first time on her MP3 player, so there's significance there, as well as the content of the songs themselves. The final segment of the mix is my attempt at picking up the pieces and moving on to someone else, and in the end realising it was all just the one big rebound. "Church on Sunday" is significant - not only because of the opening line, "Today is the first day of the rest of our lives," - but also because of a very real problem this Christian rebound girl had with my lack of faith. I told her I'd attempt to find God. The fact I gave up the search when we broke up says it all, really. I suppose it's also kinda interesting to note that the song which would best explain the situation to the second girl, "Three's a Crowd", is performed by the first girl's favourite band. Hmmm, complex... So anyway, there it is - not so much an emotional rollercoaster so much as a slow, easy ride to the pinnacle of happiness... and then a big ol' steep drop the rest of the way (with a brief and vaguely hopeful respite halfway down). Comments welcome, especially since it's a first attempt at "serious" mixing, and apologies for the lengthy explanation. :)Feedback:
Nice. I like your Green Day and Rooney picks. Keep 'em coming!
Don't apologize for the lengthy explanation! It's unique finding someone who has a plan with their mix and actually explains it! Great Ash song!
Great mix... it's good that they all have personal meanings because, really, that's all that matters. You've also chosen a few songs that strike a chord with me personally, so awesome job.
Nifty mix, I especially dig the Green Day track since I think that WARNING is a truly underrated cd. Great concept and a rather good flow to it all, as a freshman effort this could put you in contention for rookie of the year (not to self, watch less baseball.) Cheers! -Famous
