Comment:

Light blue touch papaer & stand well back! This mix was inspired by my long suffering wife, in that I deliberately set out to see how long into each track it would take for her to yell, "Call that music, turn the bloody thing off" No offence intended if there's anything included that other people genuinely like ( I for instance like tracks 3 & 13! The mix is deliberately short cos I'm looking for suggestions for the final 6 songs, so any suggestions welcome guys!

Great stuff, Cliff. I've been getting the same response from my wife with a lot of the stuff I've been listening to of late. I like the Shins, NIN (of which the wifey is a die-hard fan), Mad Prof/Lee Perry and Bjork tracks especially.

hehe. This looks like fun, Cliff. I always loved that King Crimson, but I can understand certain gentle souls calling out for mercy at the screechy horn bit.

Yay for the Shins and Wrens!

Other than NiN (whom I detest, although that's one of their better songs), this looks pretty great. That Mag Fields song, in particular, is a classic.

Well M. Frantais, that is certainly a laudable objective for a mix. ;-) The stuff you've got is perfect, but if you are looking for another suggestion, how about "Love Love Love" by Glass Candy and the Shattered Theatre. When she objects, point out that it is really romantic and you had her in mind. If you have teenagers in the house, you could earn the ultimate insult: "Why can't you just listen to classic rock like the other fathers?"

good concept - Revolution No 9 from the Beatles White Album would get my vote for a volume2, and I'm sure I could dig up some Captain Beefheart that would do Helen's head in.

I don't know if this comp really worked the way you intended (I hope so!) but this is very good mix especially the stretch 7-8-9-10! You could add Skinny Puppy (pretty much anything!). Alternatively you could add something from the more experimental releases coming from Constellation records (Re:, Fly Pan Am, Exhaust, etc)

I once made a mix called "Music That Drives My Girlfriend Out Of The House." I haven't seen that mix in a long time. I'm guessing she threw it away.I agree with Ikory21 -- a lot of this stuff is killer. Love the Zappa & Crimson cuts especially. As far as what to put on a mix like this: Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" ought to do the trick, or almost anything by Yoko Ono.

Sorry, but I will not hear a word against the Beta Band! :) Interesting mix concept and very nice stuff - Bjork, King Crimson, The Shins and Magnetic Fields are all good. You could always look at her wide-eyed and say innocently, "But...I thought you *liked* this stuff, darling"....

This seriously looks like a mix I'd dig greatly. Love tracks 4, 6, 7, and 13. 11 seems quite apropos. Perhaps "Sidewalk Serfer Girl" by the Super Furry Animals? That's a bit jarring, in a really fun way. Ooh, how about "I Don't Wanna Die" by the Unicorns?

how about almost any song by the moldy peaches? seriously. except there's a few good ones. but the bad ones, stink to high hell.
