Comment:
I've been listening to these fellas almost constantly after the release of their soon-to-be-deemed-classic second album two weeks ago. While I was initially hesitant about this compilation as they only have two full-length albums (my rule is usually to wait for three), there are enough non-LP tracks on various singles and e.p.s that I still had to eliminate plenty of their output to make the mix... therefore, it's all okay. :-) And actually, every one of these songs is fantastic. Btw, if anyone knows the name of the (great) acoustic doodle that ends the new album, please let me know. Thanks to p the swede for track 6.Feedback:
your'e welcome. this a great band, a great mix between clash and jam in my ears. BTW was there anything i promised you ? mail me if it was so
Good choices! You beat me too the punch on this one...i've been working on one for a while. Secret track is 'France' i believe.
Though I like the Libertines, not sure they deserve the music press accolades they've been receiving just yet! I'll wait and see me thinks.
Lookin' good.
dear lord. make sure and ye into the babyshambles, and if you're in the UK, make sure and see them in what will surely be a majestic club tour. good stuff.
This does looks good but I only have the first album and have really only listened to it a couple of times.
So after the immensely boring Strokes in '02/03 and the equally uninteresting Franz Ferdinand ('03/04), here's the more-of-the-same indie rock pig that's being driven thru the global pop village THIS season. Complete with a heroin-addict genius wrecking hotel rooms (move over, Pete!)and a drummer who can hardly keep a steady beat. D'oh!
I want to hear this, Rob. I am still pretty uneducated where this band is concerned. Please send me a copy when you get the chance!
I wouldn't say I was completely in Mr Mohr's camp re: Franz Ferdinand or The Libertines, but considering the press coverage over here re: The Libertines, I was expecting something more...nevertheless,each to his own..I shall re-listen immediately!
Oh dear, while I do agree with Mohr that the Strokes can be boring, I do love FF and The Libs! So it's nice to see this - and nice to know that you can put this together for a band that hasn't been around for too long. And while I'm still getting into them, I agree that they're worthy of this. Would love to hear this too.
To Mr. Mohr, ever the contrarian... 1) the Strokes' first album was a classic, despite the hype and the fact that they're spoiled rich debutantes; to my surprise, they even made a decent second album. 2) Franz Ferdinand are also pretty cool. I'd agree that they're slightly overrated, but then again, so are quite a few of the bands that you champion (for specifics, I'll review your mixes again). ;-) At least they're not Interpol, the Stills, or the Rapture, all of whom suck. 3) I hate the hype surrounding the Libertines' lifestyle--it's asinine and the descriptions of their dumb-assed drug addictions (and indirect celebrations thereof) and squat life only turn me off. However, their music (to me) is unqualifiedly great, and thus this mix exists.
I've never really listened to them to be honest, Rob, but I will give them a try since you have whetted my appetite.
I'll put the Libertines in the talented boat, but the hype machine has taken this competent rock band and blown them up so much that they don't have the skills to live up to the expectations. I came across Franz F as the hype machine was just getting warmed up, so I fell in love with them right out of the box and was/am able toride out the wave, but the Libertines I read so much about by the time I finally got the record that I was bound to be letdown. We'll see where they stand in five years. -Dale
