More happening songs from the late 60s. Part of my Woodstock Nation series. Some of these songs seem kind of goofy now but I guess you had to have been there.

Oooh, very very nice indeed. I like (if it's possible to single out a few) the Monkees, Animals, Traffic, Yardbirds and Kinks tracks in particular. Definitely the kind of thing that makes me wish I'd been born well before 1982! :)

Great! The Kinks tune is, of course, one of the 10 greatest songs ever written. So much good stuff here - never heard that Rascals track, but I never really got their appeal. Are they more than just a singles band?

Sean, yes, the Rascals are known now as a 60's singles band but they were much more back in the day. Their first album as the Young Rascals is classic garage rock and is great. They played the NY/Jersey/Philly bar & teen club circuit during the mid 60s and I saw them several times playing their blue-eyed soul garage rock. They were an awesome cover band at the time. Then of course they had their string of AM hits in 67-68 and many of them have become MOR staples. The song on this mix is from 1969 and is one of their hardest rocking songs. Their last few records were more jazz funk concept albums with guests like Alice Coltrane, Ron Carter and the Crusaders. Those albums hold up well and have been reissued on Sundazed Records. They are worth checking out along with the first album from 1966.

Hey George - the mix due you is finally ready to go. I like your comments on the Rascals, and what I know of them is only their greatest hits Timepiece, and what a fantastic collection it is! A very nice series, this!

Great stuff, George. The songs may seem goofy, but we still love 'em nearly forty years later. Can we say the same about Justin, Britney and friends in 2040?
