Comment:
Not a lot to work with here (2 albums, another album or so of b-sides, some work with his earlier band The Grays), and I learned only after hitting the "burn" button that he's got a new EP due in a couple weeks. But for lovers of serious power pop, it doesn't get much better than this. Fun stuff all around. Plus he's got a knack for stupendous covers, ranging from Eno, the Kinks, and the Left Banke to even Def Leppard, though my own favorite is his raging, 3-chord Green Day-styled vamp through Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." [As this still resides on my hard drive, I anticipate revising this later this month when I get the new EP, but this'll do for now.]Feedback:
interesting, what I heard from him is really good but I gotta check him out better
Have you heard Jellyfish? They did 2 albums. Bellybutton is excellent. Love his versions of Both Sides Now, and Wicked Annabella.
I have the first Jellyfish album, and like it ok, though it's a bit too dense and busy (like, say, XTC), weighing down what might otherwise be very enjoyable Beatles-infused pop. As I understand it, Falkner was only given guitar duties, and they wouldn't use any of his songs, leading to his decision to go solo (after his detour with the Grays).
Great, I fell in love with the song "Author Unknown" when I first heard it. I've noticed that he also has an import called "Everyone Says It's On" that is super expensive... I don't know how much of it is unique material though. Also, I love the songs from Brendan Benson's "Lapalco" on which he collaborated.
Cool
Great tribute to a super artist. Heard his Beatles album for kids? I understand what you mean about Jellyfish - good band, but sometimes a bit cumbersome to listen to.
I'm not familiar with this artist, Marc, but I like all of your mixes so this is definitely on my wants pile for our next trade.
New to me too but judging from these comments Marc I'd better get myself initiated!
