Comment:
This is actually a 2-cdr set, combining the Bob Mould/Husker Du/Sugar set I recently posted (http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=80042) with a new Grant Hart/Husker Du/Nova Mob mix. The latter essentially filches a concept from Rob Conroy, with only minor variations. (And special thanks to Rob for a few of these tracks.) Though I tend to prefer Hart's hooky pop to Mould's heavier, more angst-ridden rock (particularly in the Husker Du era), it's hard to deny that much of Mould's solo work & Sugar output is a bit stronger than Hart's more erratic solo work. Still, "2541" is amazing, as are a couple of his later solo & Nova Mob tunes.Feedback:
Great mix. "Never Talking To You Again" is still one of my all-time fav. Husker Du songs. From what I've heard of Nova Mob, they're pretty decent.
I always thought that I liked Mould's Husker Du compositions more than Grant's, but after seeing this tracklisting, I know realize that Mr. Hart was responsible for some of the band's finest moments. Love the Cheap Trick-like Pink Turns to Blue, as well as Dead Set on Destruction, the frequently covered Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely and Green Eyes.
I "now" realize. Geez, can I ever leave a comment without a typo?
Nice, my friend. I, however, disagree strongly with your assessment of Grant's solo tracks, especially since Intolerance is my favorite thing that he's ever been involved with (including any Huskers album). Nice twist with the Posies ending.
like all of this. Great stuff,Marc
Very, very nice.
Good collection. I think that my biggest beef with Mould is his voice - I just like Hart's voice more, especially post-HD. But that's just me. I think that both of them have a spotty career after HD.
