the full title of this section is: northern tortoise III: the battle of stye-fiss mountain and of the valley of kings: the death of burtrand

we begin with the introduction of bertrand and his reciept of a declaration of war from his brother durbin: the wishes-he-was emperor concurrently enjoying a brief visit with his consort before the great battle; the opening of the great moving city's walls signals the beginning of the battle as durbin's mechanical troops begin to stream down the mountain.

the battle sees both brothers dead: bertrand by an errant arrow; durbin by his consort and her mechanical lover (ooo!).

the death of bertrand is marked by his burial in the valley of kings: the feast and celebration afterwards finds thomas amongst good-hearted people who wish him well on his journey.
