Comment:
yes, it's true. i shirked the afterparty. but what does it matter? at the end of 6 years of highschool, i feel i know my cohort even less. some people i look at and think "who are you? i mean, i know your name, but..." it's silly anyway. but it's interesting. so my friends and i had our own party. :-) nothing much happened. i spilt a few glasses of wine on the carpet. i stayed up talking to meg all night and we watched the sun come up at Sandon point and spent about 3 hours straight ranting about everything that was bad with the world. it was her birthday that morning. it's funny how feeling like i know nothing of most of the people in my year, i begin to realise how much i've leant about my friends, and how close i am to them now. i hope we stick together.Feedback:
That was one of the most beautifully accurate accounts of high school's end I've ever read, man. Seriously, every single thing you described I remember doing/feeling EXACTLY when I graduated, and that was over 4 years ago. Guess it's the same mystical, contemplative, random, triviality-filled yet freely, comfortably pleasurable rite of passage for most people. Anyway, I can hardly even bring myself to check out the songs on your mix 'cuz I adore your comment on it so much. Uh, lemme see...classic Cure, New Order, Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Soft Cell, Echo, etc. Geez, just by the musicians you chose anyone who assume you graduated about 15 years ago (not counting a few more current songs). Well-put message, flawlessly selected mix. I wish I was you
Great mix. I opted out of anything graduation related that didn't involved me getting a diploma, so you're not alone.
aww. thanks guys. i just remembered why i love art of the mix so much - the way strangers can make you feel all warm and fuzzy, and satisfied i guess, that you made something or felt something poignant, and other people undertand that. on the topic of old taste, i just had an interesting chat with my dad (who is like my music guru) about how you connect the most with songs in your teens, then in your 20s music is like a social lubricant, and when you're middle-aged it becomes a link back to memory. hm. but i want all that at once. look out for a 'songs that changed my life' mix coming soon. i have more reflective ramble waiting in the wings. ;-)
Bring it on!
