i felt the need to break the law . . . in mixtape form!! there are a ton of old folk, not to mention country, songs that have to do with some kind of crime but i did not want to dominate my mix with them so i limited myself to what you see here. i stayed away from songs about drugs because that was too easy (so it easy it would have been a crime!) and is a theme in and of itself. i also have an incredibly limited view of hip-hop (what a crime!) so that's why it is is so poorly represented. honorable mention goes out to the velvet underground's "murder mystery," which i wanted to include but it is really long and didn't fit anywhere. i was weary of putting both the new pornographers' song and the judas priest song on the same mix (i felt like i was a committing a mix tape crime) but if you notice, one is "breakin' the law" (new pornographers) and one is "breaking the law" (judas priest) so i decided they were different enough to both merit a spot (it would have been a crime not to include both. . . yeah, the crime jokes aren't very funny, are they?). title comes from "i fought the law."
