Comment:

One of the better (if less well-remembered) bands of the mid-'80's college radio heydays, the Ryders were alt.country long before Uncle Tupelo entered the picture, combining 60's-styled garage band licks, mid-period Byrds country jangle, and cowpunk twang. Great live band, too.

Great band and great comp. As they say in that comp, the right band at the wrong time. Personally, I think they were a lot better at the alt.country thing than anyone who came after, Uncle Tupelo included. They could ROCK. The first ep and first two albums are damned near flawless. They "got it" - the spirit of the Flamin' Groovies and Byrds, along with garage rock. There really hasn't been a great band like them since. You hit all the classics here, Marc, and like myself your interest drops off exponentially after the early stuff. I like Sid's Coal Porters somewhat, but they just weren't the same.

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know them at all. But your description makes me want to investigate.

Fantastic! I loved this band so much back "in the day". I never saw them as a headliner but I saw them do some opeing slots and they ALWAYS won over the crowd. You've go my two favorites here - the the killer riff driven "10-5-60" and one of my favorite California pop songs "Still Get By". I wa ssurprised to see the absence of their minor hit "Looking for Lewis and Clark" which I always thought a damn fun throwaway song. -Dale

Great band. I discovered them on the third album and went back for the others. I need to dig out that old vinyl.
