Comment:

A playlist of some musicians from my area...
-Pink Anderson, the bluesman, is where Pink Floyd got half their name
-Earl Scruggs is from Shelby, where my radio station is, and we have him endorsing us on some liners... Oh yeah, he's probably the best banjo player ever
-I only put Hootie and the Blowfish on there because they are fellow USC men and talked about a bar I used to hang out at in their episode of Behind the Music (that's the only song I really like anyway)
-The Swingin Medallions kick ass. My mom's cousin is one of the original members and Bruce Springsteen said that song is one of his favorite ever.
-The Sparkletones are from Spartanburg and "Black Slacks" is really their only claim to fame... from 1957
-Marshall Tucker Band is from Spartanburg too
-Don Gibson is the best of the bunch. He is from Shelby, NC, which is where my classic country radio station is. When he died this year, his wife called us to see if we could find Connie Smith singing a gospel song he wrote for them to play at his funeral. Nobody had it. It had been out of print since the 70's and the record company couldn't even find it for us. When Ray Charles covered "I Can't Stop Loving You," it was the only time a single has ever been #1 on the pop, country, and r&b chart all at once... even to this day.

Nice. The Pink Anderson to Swingin' Medallions to Earl Scruggs sequence is sweet.
