Comment:
Made while contemplating a real, honest-to-goodness "this time I'm really leaving" breakup in a year-long relationship. The mix starts out with a remembrance of your old hope to "be the hand that" your love needs and then reflecting that it "sounded like a really good solution at the time" but now you realize how improbable that is. From there, it's a remembrance of how a relationship can go wrong in the turmoil of tracks 2-4. Track 5 comes when you think you're ready to go but some small mannerism of your lover swiftly guts you and you just want to curl up next to them and endure all of the bad. But then it happens again, you're betrayed again, so you fumble around with the incompatibilities in track 6, think about all they don't tell you and how maybe you're just not what they want in track 7, decide there's really nothing to be done in track 8 and break it to them in track 9. By 10 and 11, you're leaving. 12 is once you've settled in somewhere else, even mentally, but then you go and see the movie Closer with the beloved and realize in horror that you've spoken about half of the movie's dialogue between you in the past. Despite this, you end up looking at your life without them and whether or not you reconcile, you still ache for them because it's love and there's that void, that daily sense of emptiness with "no love, no glory" of track 13 ...
And this is heartbreak.
Feedback:
Bravo! I know it's hard, I've been there--but you did it. Breaking up with someone you're hooked on, kind of like kicking a drug. Love is a drug you know--that feeling, that spark, you felt when they touched you. It's chemical. It's an addiction and so hard to break. My advice keep listening to your music/mixes will heal you--eventually.
my advice: replace the drug of love with the drug of music. music never sleeps with your friends...
yes to KINGS of convenience!! (especially manhattan skyline). This seems like a really great mix to listen to right about now.
