Comment:
At last, after two years of putting this off, I put this together last week. Upon listening to Morrissey's solo albums, he seemed to be the perfect candidate for a mix--a bunch of great songs, but not one great album in the bunch (unless you count Bona Drag, which is a compilation). My favorite albums of his, if forced to pick, though, are Viva Hate, Southpaw Grammar and You Are the Quarry. Last tracks cut: "November Spawned a Monster", "Let Me Kiss You", "Tomorrow", "Hold on to Your Friends", "Asian Rut" and "Seasick, Yet Still Docked."Feedback:
Hard to believe that Morrissey's solo work has surpassed the output of the Smiths. It seems like the Smiths broke up yesterday. Anyway, I like the looks of this. Viva Hate is my favorite as well, though I have to admit that I haven't heard anything from his last few records. Could ya save me a copy, headmaster?
Morrissey's voice has a limited appeal for me, which is pretty rich coming from a huge Dylan fan like me, but I recognise his songwriting genius, and I wish I was more familiar with his solo stuff. Nice choice again, Rob.
Yup. I'm a big fan of Moz..loved Viva Hate, Your Arsenal, Vauxhall & I & You Are The Quarry...detest Kill Uncle..my fave Morrissey track is the duet with Siouxsie Sioux 'interlude'...good lookin' mix!
well this is one of my big heroes, and it is with some doubts I see him at number one in the SWedish charts in 2004, it obvious a great mix but I miss one of my big favs "Sing your life"
Like Moe says, hard to believe his solo work has surpassed the Smiths, but this is a goodie. Wouldn't have thought of doing a single artist mix on him, however. I live and learn!
Yay!! I think this has been put together at just about the right time, and you're right, he's very suited to a compilation - I find myself listening to Suedehead (the best of) more than any of his solo stuff, although I have given Viva Hate a lot of attention. Sorry to see that November... was cut, as it's one of my favourites (despite being rather freaky), but hey, we all do these things differently, and I'm certainly glad Let Me Kiss You didn't make it. 11-17 is a great stretch as well. I don't think I'll ever like his solo stuff quite as much as anything by The Smiths, but a mix like this certainly shows what he's capable of. Right, sycophancy over now. :)
Clearly I missed this the first time around, but nice job. I is nice to see another Southpaw Grammar fan (though I must admit to loving all of his more recent stuff including Maladjusted).
Oh I dunno, I'd say "Viva Hate" and "Vauxhall & I" are both pretty great albums. I also think "Kill Uncle" is quite underrated.
