Comment:
I don't know what I was thinking, but I'm glad that I thought it. Title from Roxy Music. [And yes, that particular Beatles song going into that particular Minor Threat song works perfectly.] Addendum: I did indeed replace Laura Nyro's "Save the Country" with John Cale's "Paris 1919" less than 24 hours after my original posting, mainly because I had included it on a prior mixed-genre mix two and a half years ago. Sorry, George--I really appreciate your comments, but I had to do it.Feedback:
Thought you'd like to know that Je pense I'm glad you submitted this.
What fun! And I love that Buzzcocks tune.
nice
Cool. Like the Buzzcocks, Echo, Roxy, Curtis Mayfield, & Laura Nyro picks especially.
This looks cool. The Beatles into Minor Threat?! I never thought I'd see that. Great mix.
great songs - hard to imagine some of the transitions. beatles into minor threat? that's ambitious, indeed. always great to see johnny thunders show up.
Man, this looks really great, Rob. Been enjoying your mixes immensely today, so I trust your judgement on the Beatles/Minor Threat. In fact, that whole stretch from 8-15 looks amazing. Great stuff.
love the first five esp
Looks great all the way thru! Good job.
Love that PiL. Ballsy to put it first. Sweet Little Hi Fi... classic.
Not too sure about Laura Nyro, but i love everything else here. Just ran the Beatles/Minor Threat interface through my mind & it does work.
Funny you should mention the Laura Nyro track, Jim, because I'm seriously considering replacing it with John Cale's "Paris 1919" due to the fact that I (gasp!) unwittingly violated one of my own mixing rules: in 2002, I used that Nyro song on another mixed-genre mix (a no-no in my personal book).
That Stones song is great!...
Killer opening quartet of songs - and then you've got of other faves. Nice stuff.
Mr. Conroy, you continue to rock my socks. Very nicely done.
Excellent. I can see a blockbuster trade coming.
Really great mix Rob. Love that Frith/Cale/Beatles trio. "Paris 1919" may well be my favorite song ever.
I'm glad you thought it, too! Lots and lots of great picks on this - most of all the Buzzcocks, Bunnmen and Curtis Mayfield. PS: Expect some mixes in your mail soon! :)
This looks flat out AWESOME.
More greatness!
I wouldn't feel too bad about including stuff that's already appeared, As I see it one of the glories of mixes is that songs can shift their meaning & take on different characteristics according to context

Fantastic. The run from 7 to 14 is fantastic.
If you're gonna replace a track, why not replace it with a belter. Paris 1919 must be one of my all time top ten tracks.
The first of six mixes of yours I will listen to over the coming week. The perfect formula for a mix.. Obscurities and gems amongst some well known faves. The weakest link here for me and my ears is Albatross. I'd have kicked off the mix with the heartbreakers. 2,3 & 4 kick ass. Loved the 7-11 stretch. The buzzcocks track was new to me and is currently rocking my world. Love this Rob.... can't wait for the other 5!!
