Comment:

31) The Mess Inside 32) Distant Stations.

A thorough re-vamping of my Mountain Goats comp from 2001, incorporating fantastic songs from John Darnielle's two fantastic 2002 releases--All Hail West Texas and Ghana. I skipped Tallahassee and We Shall All Be Healed completely; although I like them well enough, they just don't hold a candle to his more primitive stuff (at least IMHO). Darnielle remains my favorite figure in modern music, though, and it hurt to cut a million songs, notably "Orange Ball of Hate", "Color in Your Cheeks", "Song for Dana Plato", "We Have Seen the Enemy", "Itzcuintli-Totzli Days", "Lonesome Surprise", "Alpha Double Negative: Going to Catalina", "Pink and Blue", "Scotch Grove" and "Going to Port Washington." I have a feeling that I'll probably do a second volume.

I've not heard much of this guy. Just a few songs here and there. Sounds like something I should check into more.

nice tribute - i'm still of two minds about this guy. sometimes the primitive nature gets in the way of the song (for me, anyway). still, so many of the tunes are undeniable. thanks for hipping me to him.

I am a pretty casual fan of the band, so I only know very little here. To me, they aren`t very memorable, so I really don`t listen to them much, but perhaps I just have the wrong records (Tallahasse and Full Force Gainsbourg)

What George said. The little I've heard of this I really dig.

If you take the time to make a single artist mix, I take the time to check them out.

I wouldn't mind this being part of any trading we do, Rob. Is this ONE disc's-worth of stuff? I, too, am a causal listener, but I like much of what I've heard.

Hey Rob! I don't think I've ever heard this band, despite hearing a lot about them. I'm extremely interested though. They must be great if they're your favorite modern band!

I'm with Hemizen ... I thought maybe you were going to do a Curtis Burns on us and come up with a George Crumb or Sun Ra mix ...

I've listened to this a couple of times Rob and I think this is a mix that is very complicated in that on the surface it is very lo-fi but the lyrics at times can be very complex. This disc will be getting many more spins in the hemimobile!
