Comment:

Exploring some of the farther reaches of my collection.
A new series that begins with a quote from my wife across the table ."George, this is NOT dinner music". However, the last third of the mix does mellow nicely.

I found a used copy of OHM last year. I was one happy man. This looks really interesting. That Terry Riley track is one of my favourite electronic pieces.

Looking forward to this series George. I'm going to dig out my vinal and find that Weather Report LP. Any Coltrane is good stuff in my book!

Our local public libray system has a very extensive collection of avantgarde electronic music like the OHM collection. They also have plenty of ambient works, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, Morton Feldman, etc. Lots of great stuff to explore and turn into mixes.

What's not to like in this mix? I like just about every track on it!

Hey, I'd definitely have a spin of this with dinner. You just have to choose the right wine. This is an extremely cool beginning to what will no doubt be a great series. Love that Terry Riley pick, and 15-17 is great. (Incidentally, our Christmas dinner music was The Killers...hmmm.)

Actually I was making a joke about my wife's dinner music comment. There are a lot of blips and beeps in this mix and the Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire does have some nightmarish vocals. I probably should have jumped to the more mellow phase of the mix instead of putting on that Kinky CD. Anyway, we listen to albums and mixes every night while making and eating dinner and have done so for decades. Our best speakers have always been in the kitchen wherever we have lived. Every kind of music gets played at dinner and my kids have received quite a musical education. I'm really lucky that I'm married to someone who enjoys music as much as I do. She never complains about my music collection unless I neglect her favorites which tend to be a little more punk and country oriented than me. She just doesn't have my obsession for making mixes but then again her obsession is making art

Sounds like you have a groovy home life, George! If it continues to inspire you to make great mixes like this one, then long may it continue! I'd love this in our next trade sometime.

The dinner/music connection in your household sounds great, George. I must say, though, that I don't imagine that Throbbing Gristle would go well with dinner--mainly because of the visual image that comes with the band's name! Really cool mix.

So you lure 'em in with that lovely Aphex track and then... looks great George. Cooking and eating dinner (and washing up) is when I mainly listen to my mixes, and those I've received- vinyl in my room, tapes in the kitchen...

This may not have a lot that I'm going to be humming all day, but I love most of what I see here. I love the Throbbing Gristle - Cab Voltaire - Eno/Bryn trifecta.
