Comment:

Volume two. I'm upset that I *still* didn't get to include anything from Death of a Ladies' Man, which--as I said on volume one--I really do like a lot. And although I'm not so sad to have still skipped Ten New Songs, the album as a whole is growing on me. Last tracks cut: "Iodine", "Death of a Ladies' Man", "Love Calls You by Your Name", "Closing Time", "The Partisan", "Suzanne" and "Last Year's Man." And a question for all of you: what's your favorite Leonard Cohen album? (FYI, mine is Songs of Love & Hate, followed by Songs of Leonard Cohen, I'm Your Man, New Skin for the Old Ceremony, and Various Positions, respectively.)

Oh master of the SA mix, the answer to your question is "The Songs of Leonard Cohen". That is if you accept the fact that the album is older than you!

You can't get too much LC, IMHOI must confess to being a total sucker for 10 New Songs, BTW.

Though I'm usually not hung up on vocal skills, I've found Leonard Cohen's voice to be a real detriment to enjoying his music. I almost always prefer covers of his tunes to the originals. Plus the fact that he clearly doesn't give a shit about his musical backing makes most of his LPs rough listening for me, but I suppose I could make it all the way through Songs Of Love & Hate just to hear Dress Rehearsal Rag which I'm happy to see made the cut on this volume.

I think I'm with hemizen on this one - and this is a great part II to the Cohen collection. Although you didn't get to include anything from Death Of..., it looks like you've done a lot of careful consideration and it flows really nicely. The first half is great, especially. Yay Cohen!

I'm still partial to I'm Your Man. (Of course it's represented here)...I don't think his voice is a detriment, it's what gives his tracks character and a distorted beauty.

Great mix. Picking a favorite is hard. The Songs Of Lenoard Cohen got me started with him and then every decade or so he would zoom across my radar again with something that would hold my attention for a while. Ten New Songs is doing it now. I'm Your Man certainly did it and even The Future got a lot of spins in my house.

I'm Your Man will probably be my all-time favourite Cohen album.

Great tribute Rob. I'm gonna say Songs Of Love And Hate...I would say I'm Your Man but I wish that he would've used a real band with real strings on that one. Great songs hold up through anything however.
