tape one of two. this set is designed for a dual purpose--one, to provide the beginner an instant introduction to elvis costello's nearly perfect catalogue. even the bad records (eg. "goodbye cruel world") have their bright spots, and i try to highlight them.

the other purpose is to make it completely and totally understood through the course of four hours of elvis costello (these are on 120-min tapes) that love is a terrible, awful thing and anyone who tells you otherwise is completely, totally full of shit. honestly. to mix messiahs, "angry young men of the world, unite."
