Prior to the Buckingham/Nicks period of mega-hits and platinum albums starting in 1975, Fleetwood Mac had enjoyed two broad phases in its existence. Starting in 1967, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, and Jeremy Spencer formed the blues-based band. After several albums, culminating with their accepted masterpiece Then Play On, Peter Green left the band. The remaining original members, plus guitarist Danny Kirwin and keyboardist Christine McVie, were able to spread their wings a bit on the transitional Kiln House album. The second phase of the band began with the signing on of California guitarist Bob Welch, who brought the band a little more of a pop sound.
The mix is meant to capture the band at its best during those two early periods. Nothing from Penguin or Heroes Are Hard To Find is included since I don't have those two discs. Even so, I had no problem filling two discs with their wonderful music. I always knew that I loved Fleetwood Mac, but I realize it even more after listening to this distillation of their early music. Enjoy the mix!

Very well done. I've always thought about doing one of these (esp as I've compiled the Buckingham-Nicks era), but was stopped by CASETTA's formidable version of this a couple of years ago. This is great, though, and really expands on the idea by taking it through the Bob Welch era. I may want to trade for this one, at least to get stuff from the Welch period.

Nice work, Steve. My fav Mac track is "Need your love so bad", which was the song played for Fiona and I at our wedding for the first dance! The guitar playing of Peter Green was quite sublime.
Looks great. I'm not very familiar with this period in Fleetwood Mac's history, but you've talked about it often enough that "Bare Trees" is now on my wish list.
