Comment:

Paul Westerberg is one of the few people I consider a personal hero. His music was the soundtrack to my alienated suburban existence, and my abiding regret in this life is that I'm too young to have ever seen the Replacements live. Which makes it all the more surprising that I've never posted a Paul mix. At last, I've finally gotten around to it.

Last songs cut were "HideNSeekin'," "Things," "Men Without Ties," and "Dyslexic Heart."

I was recently introduced to Paul Westerberg from someone on this website, and I just love his music. (I love the Replacements too) nice job! :)

"Things" is my favorite solo Westerberg song, so I'm sorry to see that you cut it (not that I'm much of a fan of his solo work, to be honest). One of my two greatest rock and roll moments ever involves him, though: after his Pittsburgh show on March 15, 1989 (I was 17, about to turn 18), I got to sing "Here Comes a Regular" with him on the house piano (two friends of mine and I walked up to him and offered him a dollar--the total amount of money we had--to play it). As he started to play, I found myself singing along and got to sing the line "Like a picture on a fridge that's never stocked with food" because he'd forgotten it. He stopped for a second, looked up at me with a semi-drunken smile, and said, "Hey, someone else knows the words to this? Cool." There's a little more to the story, but I'll spare you. Needless to say, since he was my personal hero at the time (what you said about his music being the soundtrack to your "alienated suburban existence" definitely rings true with me, at least when I was in high school), it was a fantastic experience.
