Comment:
glō'bal
a. world-wide; pertaining to or embracing the whole of a group.
chor'al (k-)
a. 1. of or sung by choir; 2. (read or said) by group of voices; of or with chorus.
I've been delaying the creation of a sequel to Global Choral for so long that I
now find I have accumulated a stockpile of tracks-in-waiting. As it turns out, enough for a four CD set.
Again the concept is choral music that spans time and geography. The net has been widened at times, stretching & abusing those above definitions, but the
spirit remains the same.
And, in truth, I find these volumes are about as 'global' as the first mix; that is, not really representative of the entire globe that we live upon but
predominantly sourced from within a quarter of that area. So be it, those are my tastes and "Quarter Sphere Choral" just doesn't have the same appeal to it
:)
This volume starts off with a French song dealing with fin amours (true love). Apparently the two inviolable precepts of this subject were deemed to be, first, that true love may existing only outside marriage and second, that a man must subject himself totally to the will of his beloved, whether her requests seem rational or not. Only a fool would comment further on this.
Maurice DuruflT was hugely self-critical, resulting in him producing only 14 works in a 50 year career. His Requiem is the most famous of these and uses the same text as FaurT's.
Ensemble Mzetamze were formed in the mid-1980's by 6 women musicologists from Tbilissi Conservatory and are dedicated exclusively to the traditional music of women in Georgia.
Feedback:
Respect as always...I should think it plays like a dream!
Great to see a selection from India, that makes it a truly global affair.
Both volumes look absolutely beautiful! A splendid aural experience, I'm sure.
Quite superb once again
Another mighty Muzag mixological marvel...is track 9 from The Protecting Veil, (with Yo Yo on cello)?
ditto everyone else.....the first was quite excellent as I'm quite sure these are too!!!!!!
I know a bit more of this, and this is great.
Both volumes look great.
I can't say I'ce heard a lot of this but it's an interesting two volume set.
absolutely awe-inspiring...
Gene: An answer for you - at last :) - No, the Tavener track is from
Sacred Music (with the Choir of St George's Chapel, Windsor).

Man, I love the Bj÷rk -> Berg and worship all things Penderecki even if I don't share his faith.
