Comment:

I've found the bulk of music reviews seem to rely heavily on creative writing classes the reviewers had taken in college. They present a lengthy piece on an album with heavy thesaurus influence, but you still come away without any idea of what the album or artist might actually sound like. There are occasionally exceptions. One reviewer wrote about the Boxing Gandhis and called them a cross between Sly & The Family Stone and Little Feat. Now that's a review I can get my ears around. For the past couple of years I've been building a database of my cd collection (I've yet to get to the vinyl and cassettes) with track notes, BPM, sample notes (for remixing), covers and a column called "sounds like". I list similar sounding tracks or artists so that I've got an overall feel of the track and a quick reference for building set lists. So as I was going through my notes this past weekend I kept running across the same comment and decided to put together this mix.The title is from track 11. Overall it's an uplifting soulful vibe. So if you aren't familiar with some of these tracks or artists you'll have a pretty good idea of their sound from the rest of the tracks. This is my first non-continuous mix post.

hmm - "sounds like" a really good way to pull together a mix - & it looks like in this case it worked out well.

thats some effort you go through in your cataloguing technique. My method is to stack CDs in piles and then hope that I can remember what each pile represented. Yours is better! I know precious little of this but still, wow.
