Comment:
Yeah, like most others I used to think he was a wet dippy-hippie / poor man's Dylan & all the rest but dammit, the good Mr Leitch could certainly knock out a fine tune when the muse was upon him & inspred plenty of great cover versions in a variety of styles & genres. Here's 20 examples.Feedback:
Bitchin'!
Deep Purple doing Lalena. Interesting concept.
When I think dippie hippie, I think of Donovan, it's true . . .
But as you've demonstrated here, it's not just tippy yippies who can recognize his songwriting skills -

This looks like a really fun mix!
Groovy!
Looks great! Season of the Witch has always been one of my favorites.
Intriguing!
Cool!
Amazing.... I never suspected a cover mix of Donovan's stuff was possible. Not that I'm not a Donovan fan, because I am. I just didn't think most of his stuff was "coverable". But I betcha ol' Mel really trips out on Sunshine Superman!
Very nice. Mr. Leitch is among the best of the best, and anyone who dares to cover one of his songs is a very brave indeed. I didn't know Ms. Faithful covered 'Sunny Goodge Street'. My favorite version of that song is by Ms. Collins. I am also unfamiliar with the Ms. Kitt version of 'Wear Your Love Like Heaven', but I adore the version by Mr. Valens. I would love to hear Mr. Campbell doing 'Catch the Wind'. However, I'm not sure the song by Mssrs. Mondays counts as a cover?
Great idea. We haven't been introduced, but welcome to splitters.
always good to see Donovans son in law on a mix and BTW himself too of course
great idea, Bill, and a great mix! Still diggin' big-time, the two mixes you sent me.
You can't knock Donovan as far as I'm concerned. Nice idea and some versions I'd love to hear.
Great idea, looks very intriguing.
Nice one plushpig! The Telepathics do a great version here...
Yes, there are lot's of people out there doing a Donovan thing. The first time I heard a Beck album I immediately thought of Donovan.
This looks awesome. I'll want this one sometime, as well, as I think Donovan is the single most underrated figure of the '60s.
Love the look of this, trTs bon indeed.
Really great, I agree with Rob..
Great idea. I'd like to hear this one.
This looks really good. A few here I hadn't heard yet (9, 12 & 17) and only one I wish I hadn't (15) Don't get me wrong, I like the Surfers just not their version. The Stephen Stills/Al Kooper version of Season of the Witch is good too (if you don't already have it)
You may have missed Sarah McLachlan's version of "Wear Your Love Like Heaven."
Fabulous.
Spectacular. I love the Brian Auger Trinity version of that track. If I have anything of interest, I'd love to trade for this.
