Comment:
As opposed to the Miles and Monk mix, this one is actually listenable, not ideological. I won't say anything else about Davis the trumpet player and instead focus on Davis the guy who assembled all this talent in the same place and made these sessions happen. Listen to Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Joe Zawinul all play together on Splashdown. Listen to Trevere and The Big Green Serpent where Larry Young contributes ideas that far outweigh the ones that appear on those Lifetime records. Listen to Sonny Sharrock's absurdly amazing slide guitar on the Willie Nelson insert. Listen to John McLaughlin's fretboard-singeing attack on that Right Off segment that got cut from Jack Johnson. First 2 tracks come from Complete In a Silent Way. 3-5 from Complete Bitches Brew. 6-8 from Complete Jack Johnson.Feedback:
This looks very cool. This must be somewhat later stuff, stuff I've not explored much. Macero doesn't get the credit he deserves outside of jazz circles, as his "assemblages" were a key creative component to the success of a lot of great Davis albums. I'd like to hear this, too.
Bitches Brew is where I got off the boat with Miles but it's probably time to re exam that position. Looks great Nick.
This is very cool. The 70s stuff is some of my favorite Miles.
An unlistenable Miles and Monk mix...hmm, what'd I miss? Anyway, nice assemblage here.
