In February of 1997, I took a job as technical producer for a music Web site called Rocktropolis.com. Besides helping produce live Webcasts of bands like The Cure, The Allman Brothers, and M÷tley Crne, I was responsible for implementing a feature called Rocktropolis Radio, which offered streaming access to a set of about a dozen RealAudio tracks every month. Before taking the job, I had pretty much fallen out of touch with the new music scene. Rocktropolis Radio was my first introduction to each of the tracks and artists below, and the kick in the ass I needed to start exploring new sounds again.
