Comment:

Crying songs are the perfect companions when you're really down and can't handle to meet anyone. But you still want some understanding how you feel, something you can have when you don't manage to do the most basic stuff you must do. There is no explaination to how the body can miss someone so much. It's often about lost love or a friendship that ended and the most commen subject in popmusic must be that too but you got too find the gold in the sand 'cos every ballad or every sad song are not a crying song, it's not that simple. heavy metal ballads or Celine Dion are no way close.
1.Johnny Cash "I hurt myself today, to see if I still could feel" If you had seen that video, you know what I talk about 2.Esther Phillips "I can stand a little rain" is a song about how much you can take 3.Beth Ortons version of the Ronettes sunshinesymphony "I wish I never saw the sunshine" is a monumental piece Phil Spector once upon a time produce, Beth breaks it down to pieces and made in to English summerdepression.
4.Tim Hardin "Reason to belive" Tim die the week after that Lennon been shoot, not many missed him then but now he is a cornerstone in the world of singer/songwriter 5.Smiths "I know it's over" " It's so easy to laugh It's so easy to hate It takes strength to be gentle and kind"
6.Townes van Zandt "Kathleen" just the first line says it all "It's plain to see the sun won't shine today, But I'm not in the mood for sunshine anyway"
7.Ulf Sturessons "sommarbarn" it's about his sister and his friend who both died in cancer.
8.Steve Forbert "It isn't gonna be that way" just dicover this 9.You need Soul that really hurts too, "You told me you gonna leave me here in tears" Aretha Franklins My song, once a b-side to See saw,
10.Reverend Al Greens "How can you mend a broken heart" may be overplayed in films like Notting Hill but when you here him you belive everything 11.Bruce Springsteen "Tougher than the rest" Bruce may be to much a he-man but sometimes he really hit the bulls eye 12.Gram Parson get fired out of the Byrds , started Flying Burrito Brothers instead, Costello had made it but this is the real shit."I'm your toy, I'm your old boy But I don't want no one but you to love me
No, I wouldn't lie You know I'm not that kind of guy"
13. this is all from a column I wrote and one reader remind me of this one, Sinead O Connors version of that Prince song. "It's been so lonely without you here
" went to the doctor guess what he told me Guess what he told me?
He said, girl, you better have fun No matter what you do
But he's a fool ... 'Cause nothing compares ... Nothing compares to you ..." brilliant
14.Hederos & Hellberg from the soundtrack of our lives fame take Stooges nihilistic anthem "No fun" to a dead end street of pain and misery.
15. Bob Dylan can also be bitter and in Dirge you can really feel it " hate myself for lovin' you and the weakness that it showed
You were just a painted face on a trip down Suicide Road."
16 Sophie Zelmani had played Dylan songs but here she really points out that screaming isn't always the best way to communicate, just whisper and most people listen"To know you means a lot of things, a lot of love, a lot of dreams".
17. Toussaint McCalls "Nothing can take the place of you" may be a lost treasure but it's still a treasure of loneliness.
18. Discoband Odysseys made a ballad, Tindersticks made a story of life and sorrow out of , When Stuart Staples hiss the words "If you're looking for a way out I won't stand in your way If you're looking for a way out Don't stop at the tears that I'm crying" You know it's for real

Ah, Peter! the old cryin' song therapy! I think I have 8 or 9 volumes of cryin' songs. Emmylou Harris says a song that doesn't make you cry is not a song worth singing. Hope this helps. We're thinking about you...

i find that crying may be a more beneficial emotion than happiness. happiness is almost always fleeting (although my wife gets super pissed when i say that) but when you cry and feel loss, you're really just mourning good things, and it's nice to know that those things have and will come into your life. this is a really great mix.

Almost anyone could compile a mix full of songs about crying, but I doubt few would be as good as this one. *sniff sniff*

Beautiful. I do hope you're feeling better. After all, there are many kinds of sad. By the way, I read about a book today called Mix Tape : The Art of Cassette Culture
by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth). It's due in May it seems.
